The threads are made from the same material as standard surgical sutures. The 'teeth' or 'barbs' on the threads, when worked under the skin, catch the tissue - creating vectors of pull which allow the surgeon to achieve the desired correction. The body uses its own Collagen to surround the threads and anchor them in place. This non-surgical face lift procedure leaves no scars, requires no bandages, and greatly minimizes the down time associated with more traditional, surgical facelift procedures.

Complications associated with the Contour Thread Lift procedure are rare, but can include the thread end working its way out of the entrance to the skin, the development of a pucker and infection. Each complication can be safely and easily remedied (the physician can trim the protruding end or remove the thread, massage the affected area and antibiotics take care of the infection).
